Overview

Pregnancy can be an exciting time of your life and it can bring on a variety of emotions and stress along the way. When you're expecting, Lumen offers a variety of programs and resources to help you and your baby to be as healthy as possible. Once you and baby are home and you return to work, we want to support your post-delivery needs as well. We offer programs such as Milk Stork and onsite nursing rooms to keep your baby’s needs a priority.

  • Maternity Support Programs
    Healthy Pregnancy Program

Through UnitedHealthcare, you have access to support (by phone) from a nurse with experience in obstetrics when you enroll in the Healthy Pregnancy Program, included as part of your existing health care benefits. • Maternity & Parental Leaves

Maternity & Parental Leave provides a paid, approved absence for an expectant mother or new birth mother, non-birth mother, and father for the birth & care of a newborn child.

Under Lumen's Maternity and Parental Leave Policy, eligible employees are provided with a period of paid time off for the addition of a new child. Employees should contact Sedgwick for all State, FMLA, and Maternity and Parental Leave requests. Please refer to the Maternity & Parental Leave page on InsideLink for more details.

  • Enrolling your new baby in benefits

The birth of your baby is a qualified life event that allows you to make certain changes to your Lumen Benefit Plans. The change must be made within 45 days of the effective date of the birth of your child. If you do not take action within 45 days of the qualifying event, you will not be able to add your child until the following Annual Enrollment period.

If you are adding a new baby/child to your benefits, they will not be eligible for coverage until you have provided documentation that confirms their eligibility under the Plan. Refer to the Dependent Verification page for details.

    What you need to do:
    • Within 45 days of the birth of your child, log on to the Health and Life website and select the "Change my Benefits" tile on the home page.
    • Click on the "Life Event" and select "Birth/Adoption/Legal Guardianship", enter the date of the birth/adoption/legal guardianship, and click "Continue".
    • On the next page click "Start Change" to complete the enrollment process.
    • You may want to update your beneficiary designation even if you are not adding your child to your health and life insurance plans.
    • Consider enrollment/changing coverage in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) - health and dependent daycare or your Health Savings Account (if enrolled in the HDHP medical plan).
    • For more information visit the Qualified Life Events page.
    Documentation/Forms you may need:
    • You will need to provide documentation to the Lumen Service Center within the required timeframe.
